Simple Single Favor

Planning a party is no easy task.  No matter how simple you want it to be, there is always the core list of items that cannot be avoided.  From the get-go there’s a decent list of things to do.  Planning the timeline, location, food, cake, decorations, table supplies, other random supplies, gifts for the party kid, and a favor gift for the guest kids.  Yep, I said “a favor gift”, not a party bag, or goodie bag; one gift for each kid.

The favor is an area where you can keep it simple.  One small (or medium, if you only have a few guests) sized token of appreciation.  Pick one item, purchase the number you think you’ll need, check that off your list.

It’s become the norm these days to do lute bags.  It’s a great idea, particularly if all the items are to the theme of your party.  Since the popularity of goodie bags, it feels like maybe the pressure is on…gotta have a bag full of teeny tiny toys.  Honestly, I think one item is easier for the kids to appreciate.  Kids practically live for random one off things!  You know how it is, we could give them a shoe box or a hand full of feathers and they would find a way to make it fun.

It may take a little bit longer to decide on the one gift favor, but it’s easier to purchase and will save you time on putting things together and most likely it won’t need a bag.

Some ideas for simple single favors:  Blind bags of all kinds!  Personally I really like the Play Mobil bags.  Hot Wheels, wands, masks, pirate patch or hat, personal size bag of kinetic sand, book of jokes, fancy pens, smelly pencils, sketchbooks, kids watercolor paints, headbands, animal key chains, hats or crowns or tails.

Troll Party – custom and reusable

I have been asked to do a Troll Party.  How Fun!!  After our initial meeting and an email or two, we have the list pretty well set.  Favors are always the big fun item:  felt hug time wristbands and troll hair headbands are the choice for handmade favor items.  So Cute!!  We found these on Pintrest.  Links to websites listed below for instructions if you find yourself unable to resist making these.

Pictured are supplies for the wristbands and table runners.  The white pieces are patterns I made from regular white paper.  It was perfect timing for Troll Hug Time wristlet supplies.  I found these purple and yellow sew-on velcro strips and glitter buttons on clearance!  Normally $3 each, I got velcro and buttons for .50 each.  That’s a saving of $12.50…love finding good deals!  Of course that savings is passed on the my customers 😉  Even though the wristband instructions call for stick-on velcro, I was already planning on sew-on.  I’m just like that.  I like to make things as sturdy as possible if it makes sense.

I’m very excited to be able to supply reusable items such as cloth table covers, cloth Troll table runners, small stainless steel forks and spoons, and paper flowers for wall decorations.  For added sparkle and shine there will be confetti tulle overlays on the food and gift tables.  We’ll be using a shiny stainless steel cake stand along with a large silver wrapped cake board to display cookies and acrylic crystal cut cake and knife server set.  All these items are rentable here at Kid Frolic Austin.

✤I’ll post updated photos during the week as all these materials get transformed into actual party goods.

Blind Bags

Surprise toys in a bag or box.  Kids get pretty excited about the possibilities.  importas 300So many kinds to choose from too.  After just a few, our daughter latched on the Playmobil mini figure blind bags.  These are particularly fun because the kids get to put them together before they start playing.  Bonus features to these characters:  the pieces are interchangeable and they come with an accessory!  Extra fun!!

DSCN3839 Playmobil blind bags make a great favor.  It’s all you need, one bag per kid.  No putting together favor packs, no wrapping or crafting, no fuss.  Just purchase the appropriate amount and set them on a table for kids to grab and take (or open) at the end of the party.

Here in Austin we have a couple of really great, locally owned, toy stores that carry a few types of blind bags including the Playmobil figures.  They usually range from $3 – $4.DSCN3843

Be warned, these little characters might become addicting.  But it’s fun and encourages creative play.  The size is another bonus, they can easily be taken along to play with in the car or anywhere the kids might need something to do.

Oh Shiny Ribbon

dscn3656Little girls and boys everywhere appreciate and find joy in simple things.  It’s difficult to resist such a find as a colorful ribbon.  Simple necklaces, bracelets, and lanyards can be fashioned from ribbon to make a sweet party favor.  They can be sewn or tied or have any assortment of clasps attached.  Just remember to make it easy for the kids to put on and take off.   Beads can be fancy and festive.  Shiny gems and dragon pendants are perfect for a princess or knights party.

Treasure Box Party Favor

reusable boxThis is a really great favor the kids will use for months (maybe years!) to come. You can make it as simple or elaborate as you desire. These little boxes are very handy for treasure, tiny toys, pretend small pet beds, hair accessories, play kitchen organizer, sticker collections, crayons, you get the idea…

Decide on a reusable box – I used little plastic flip top boxes from Ikea (kids department). They come in a small color variety pack and they are $3.99 for a four pack. Craft stores are likely to have a variety of small wooden boxes.

Add pocket sized treasure to your boxes! It doesn’t have to be filled, just enough to let the kids sift through the treasures. Kids light up at the sight of sparkling jewels! I love it.

dscn3652I divided the following items into my boxes: 1 large bag of jewels, 2 packages of foam sparkle stickers, 1 bag of plastic jewel rings, some princess/knight buttons, and one small pack of variety buttons. I wanted to supply enough treasure so the kids would have the option to get creative and decorate the outside of the box.

Flower Marker

This is a super easy and fun favor.  The three items to make this: kids markers, floral tape, sturdy fake flowers. Cut the stems (leaving a good inch and a half to 2 inches), and tape em’ to the markers.  A good amount of tape that covers the entire stem will look and hold the best.  DSCN3096

Kids love to color and a create.  This favor will be used for months to come.  It is versatile, it can be used for fairy, princess, butterfly, garden tea party, and color themed parties. Combine it with related items such as coloring sheets or mini flower pots. Use it to indulge the kiddos in a fun party craft before giving to each guest.  Use it to decorate a table.  Lots of options with this one.  This particular pen was made by a friend of mine for a butterfly party.
